the other night i sat back for a little bit and watched pulp fiction. my expectations of this movie were pretty high, since it's pretty widely known as this prodigial cultural touchstone, and i suppose i can see the appeal. i won't delve too far into the actual details of the movie considering the subject material, but i will say that vincent and jules are a pretty funny duo! i'm a really big fan of samuel l. jackson's performance in general; jules is just so damn cool. i wasn't too big on butch's storyline, but i did quite like mia's. i have it in me to appreciate a lot of parts from this movie, but something about its diehard defenders just puts me off a bit.

sometime during this week i ended up watching the film adaptation of harper lee's "to kill a mockingbird". it wasn't actually too out of the blue considering i had just finished the book, but to me that seems like a good precursor. the book was released in 1960 and the film was released in 1962, starring gregory peck as atticus and mary badham as scout. i honestly love this movie, and i liked the book a lot too. something about classic literature (aka highschool english class curriculum; shoutout to "of mice and men") is really charming to me, and it was really cool to see it come to life, especially since the casting is just impeccable!!! they casted atticus so well, i honestly just love his character in general. scout, jem, and dill are always a fun trio. to me, the most shocking aspect of the movie had to be the amount of content that they cut. not that i was expecting them to jam pack every detail of the book, and i'm not too mad about what they chose to omit, but i at least expected uncle jack, aunt alexandra, or even the missionary ladies to make a cameo. despite that, i still think the message behind the book does translate well, and as long as atticus is on screen i'm pretty much satisfied. i love that man.
